Timber Conservatories and Orangeries

An orangery has a flat roof with one or more glass ‘lantern’ roof lights above it which flood the area with natural light. Inside there is a perimeter ceiling usually in plaster into which lighting (and audio speakers) can be installed. The windows and doors can be made as a continuous run or have brick- or stone pillars in-between. Bridging the gap between the roof and the windows is either a brick or stone parapet, or timber facia boards.

A conservatory can have full-height frames or a low wall onto which the frames are positioned. French doors to the side and or the end provide easy access into the garden. The glass roof is supported by hardwood rafters colour-matched to the windows and door and can incorporate roof vents for optimal temperature control. Externally we can keep the roof-line simple and clean so that the eye is drawn to the windows and doors, or we can add decorative flourishes such as crestings along the ridge and finials at the ends.
